Great Gate lasted 2 years will replace

lock froze up, this seems to be a very common problem with this gate, It was very easy to install and even though it may only last 2 more years we are going to replace the one that broke...
Great great . . . while it lasts
- Ted Hall, USA We have our gate about 2 years. The gate worked effectively during this time until the spring or locking mechanism failed. Reading other reviews, this appears to be a common failure. Unfortunately, the locking mechanism is riveted to the gate and cannot be taken apart to be repaired. The only solution is to replace the entire gate. If you purchase this gate, plan on it lasting about 2 years. Given this problem, I would NOT recommend buying a used one.
Mixed bag
- David from Massachusetts I continue to buy this gate because it is very effective. The kids can't get through it, but the knob does break. I've gone through 2 gates (there are three in the house, and we put them up 2 years ago). I am installing a new gate in the basement, and I am ordering two because I know that one of the knobs will break soon enough. Even so, other gates that I have tried have been flimsy or are easily overcome.
Works until knob breaks
- kevin As has been stated, once the knob breaks the company says you have to buy an entire gate as it's a none-replacable piece. Although they could simply replace that side of the gate and all would work accordingly. I drilled out the steel and looked inside to see a flimsy spring which had broke as well as a plastic depression on the back of the knob which had broken and did not mate with the internal plastic part. I will be buying another product after seeing this construction.
lock freezes up

lock froze up, this seems to be a very common problem with this gate, it could have be deadly
conciquences if it had happened in an emergency situation
Breaks in Locked position
- sharon Ours broke too after a year.
Broke in the locked position at the top of the stairs. VERY Frustrating since I'm 8 months pregnant and it's tough to climb over a locked gate while holding a 2 year old.
Fire in the middle of the night? We're in trouble with a locked gate you cannot open.
Plus it's not quiet. The click is VERY Loud and you cant really hold in the latch while you close it.. so if you have kiddies sleeping near this gate, it will wake them.
