I think I will like it better when it's installed. I had to send a section back because the connector pieces, which are made of plastic (plastic mounting brackets, too)were broken during shipping. This could have been prevented by covering the connectors with foam or cardboard or by not using plastic at all! My other hang-up is that I had to remove a section to get the gate in the right position, but the piece I took off can't be reused anywhere else on the gate so, I had to buy an extra section to make it fit. | | By: H. Thomas 3/7/2007 | | | Your ONE solution! | I was looking for an indoor/outdoor gate system that we could use for years, i.e. I didn't want to purchase a new one with each child. My top concerns were safety, ease of use, quality and a nice looking design. I made the right choice with the KIDCO Configure Gate. We have used it in several places the past TWO years! To help block the driveway [elongated], in the yard [as a play pen], on our deck, as a christmas tree barrier, in our home office and more. We even accidentally left it on our deck in the rain and NO RUST! I love the walk-through door panel, so I don't have to walk over it to get in and out. The vertical bar design won't allow climbing. It is easy to conform to ANY shape - we will never buy another, although we may purchase additional panels in the future. | | By: Anyonymous 1/1/2004 | | | Protect your children from your wood stove! | We recently purchased a Kidco HearthGate for our fireplace. Our fireplace has a wood stove installed into it and the hearth is flush to the ground, so we were finding it difficult acquiring a safety gate that was strong enough that our 3 year old couldn't move it or our 1 year old push it. This gate it the perfect option. It is adjustable to many shapes like the Kidco Configure gate, but has a heat resistant coating (it is black instead of white). It has hardware to screw the product into the wall at each end and then you shape it around your hearth (once the segments are move they lock in place. It took my husband only about one hour to install (and that was with breaks) and I am very pleased with the results. It has a gate that swings open, but the children can't open it. I really wish we had bought this gate at the start instead of the one we had originally bought! | | By: AnnMarie, USA 1/1/2004 | | | Kidco Gate | We origionally bought this gate to keep our son away from the Christmas tree, but have found it useful for all sorts of things. We leave it unattached to anything and simply move the gate where we need it (indoors, outdoors, den, livingroom, etc) to keep our son confined when we need him to be. Cleaning, decorating, etc. The only problem I have seen with it is that my son is very strong. At 17 monthes he is picking up the bottom of the gate and trying to crawl underneath it, where he ends up trapped. This however I don't think is a defect in the gate, but rather a unique situation with my son who at 15 monthes was climbing out of his playpen. He simply can't be contained for any amount of time. I would reccomend this gate to anyone who needs a "play yard" for their child, or wants to keep them out of a dangerous or non childproofed area. | | By: Devin, Fayetteville, NC 1/1/2004 | | | Keep Your Kids Safe With This Gate! | We recently had moved into our new home that has a raised brick fireplace. We definitely needed something to prevent almost certain injury if my son were to fall on it. The foam padding that the stores sell just didn't seem to make it safe enough and still would not prevent a burn if his little hands decided to touch the glass cover of the gas fireplace. So far, it has worked out great! It comes with three sections. Each end must be mounted to the wall if you want it to be secure. If you need to block off an area larger than 72 inches, you will need to purchase additional extensions. There is a child-proof door and is very easy to use. Although my son has watched us unlock the door his little hands aren't strong enough to do it himself. We did end up needing to purchase two additional sections at $30 a piece in order to completely block off the area. This was fairly easy to mount to the wall and did take about a half hour to do. Once it was in place we had so much peace of mind. Now, even if he runs into it, the gate is there and he won't get hurt. I'm rating this 4 stars only because it is so expensive otherwise the gate itself is a 5. The cost is still so worth the safety of your child. | | By: Anonymous, Seattle, WA 1/1/2004 | | | Babyproofing at it's best. | If you have a large or oddly shaped space, this is the gate to buy. | | By: Sophia's Mom, USA 1/1/2004 | | | Write your own review and start sharing your opinion with others. | | | | | | |
