Bought this to replace another gate that was intolerably loud to open and close. This gate is virtually silent to operate. You have to remember to close it after you - you can't slam it shut like some others, but it's so easy and quiet!! I'm in love. We have a 10" extension installed to span our 46" wide stairs, and it's very sturdy.

This gate is high enough and strong enough to hold our 25lb baby dog. The instructions were a little difficult to follow at times. Need to be more explicit, with better illustrations.

The main problem with this item was the installation instructions. After 3 of us could not make heads or tails out of what was on the page, we called a family friend who does construction and remodeling professionally thinking we must be dense or something. After he read all the instruction manual, he said he could not follow the information either and he was simply going to install the gate and the needed extension at the base of the stairway as he could envision the best manner. Well, the gate works perfectly and everyone is happy and safe and no more toddler escapees disappearing up the stairs unawares!!! It looks great at the base of the stairs and will remain there to keep future pet purchases from going upstairs uninvited as well. Why remove it??

The instructions included with this product are very difficult to follow. I found myself forced to figure out what worked and what didn't. Considering this is a product designed specifically for the safety of my child, I have to say I was very disappointed. However, once installed and tested, it seems to work well.
Rated 3 stars  Not Actually 31" Gate - Charley
This gate is nice and sturdy. Only complaint is that the website as well as the box for the gate say that the gate stands 31" tall. The gate is actually only 28 1/2" high. Although only a couple inches difference, but the difference was enough to not fit on our newel posts at the top of our stairs. We needed that extra couple of inches to make it to the top and bottom flat mount surfaces instead of the round surface of the post. Be aware that the 31" refers to the space between the gate and the floor and the total height of gate added together, not the gate itself. Other than that, the gate seems to be sturdy and matches our other black Kidco Pressure Mounted gate that we have.
