Graco SafeSeat Infant Car Seat – G Collection

This Graco car seat is the first in a three step car seat progression which Graco offers. It is followed by the SafeSeat Step 2 and culminates with the TurboBooster. The SafeSeat is designed for infants up to 30 lbs. and 32 inches in height. It can hold the child a little bit longer than a traditional infant car seat which only goes to 22 lbs. and 29 inches.

This infant toddler car seat in the G Collection stands out because it is the lone infant car seat which can accept a child at the maximums it does. The SafeSeat fits a total of 97% of the one year old children. It is one of the most universal versions of toddler car seat. This Graco infant seat is also one of the only seats to feature a dial which adjusts the height of the base, making life tremendously easy on a traveling family.

An ergonomic handle makes this car seat extremely easy to carry which will certainly help while toting a child to nearly 30 lbs. This Graco car seat also features a distinguishable belt lock off system which holds the seat belt in place while installing the infant car seat.

The Graco SafeSeat progression is designed to simplify installation and provide a toddler car seat for the child at every age and weight. With fabric worthy of Hollywood and GracoPedic Luxury Foam built into the fabric, this Graco product is one of the most luxurious around.

Rated 1 stars  Cheap Material, Too Big, Bad Instructions - C.H., South FL
Graco might be making a killing with this product as they charge over $100 for something that appears to be made with less than $20 worth of materials. The seat is MUCH too big to fit in a regular compact car such as a 2006 Nissan Sentra unless you decide to install in a center seat location which has the advantage of being safer, but much more inconvenient. The documentation, in my opinion is very poor, and I've installed Linux systems from scratch w/ less documentation... Bad documentation could lead to unnecessary infant injuries and deaths if people don't completely understand the instructions. Let's not talk about the styling... wasn't black, red and gray popular in the 80's or did I miss the come back somewhere... I hope I can find something better... I'm giving this product TWO stars because it will do the job... but I expect much more from a product.
Rated 5 stars  Great Car Seat BUT Too Large for our small SUV - Parent, Colorado Springs, CO
I gave the seat itself 5 stars - I guess our car gets 3 stars :) The seat is wonderful - easy to install, good LATCH fit, foot on it to level the seat out, nice lining. Unfortunately, we are going to have to return it and get another seat for our soon-due newborn! It's too long (head to foot) to fit comfortably in our car. We don't have center LATCH points, so it has to go behind a seat. The car seat is so long, that once it is installed and at an appropriate level for a newborn, the seat in front of it has to be almost completely upright and pushed forward more than is comfortable for a 5'7" person. For reference, we have a 2003 Subaru Forester. Before you buy this seat, see if you can find a friend that has one...check it out in your car to make sure it fits! I didn't expect it to be a problem - it wasn't with our first child's seat that was smaller. So, the benefit of this carseat (rear facing to 30 lbs!) could be it's downfall for you if you don't have a large vehicle.
Rated 5 stars  great carseat - Mom, CT
When I was expecting my first child, a daughter, I had decided that I was going to buy the Graco SnugRide infant carseat. While shopping online I saw the SafeSeat and loved the fact that it has a weight limit of 30 lbs and 32 inches for the height. It's bigger and a little heavier then the SnugRide but I know my daughter will be safer rear-facing beyond her first birthday. Another good thing about this carseat is that after she grows out of it I won't have to buy a convertible carseat because she can go right into the booster seat I already have for her that has a weight range from 20 to 100 lbs. I love this carseat and it's well worth the extra $50. The only thing I didn't like was the fabric, it felt stiff and that's why I bought the carseat and stroller in a different pattern. I installed this carseat a week before I had her with no problem. I highly recommend this carseat!
Rated 2 stars  Not good for a small newborn, - E.O., Davis, CA
What was Graco thinking of when they made a BLACK car seat with a synthetic lining? What was I thinking when I bought a black carseat? My 6 week old daughter is drenched in sweat every time I pick her up after a car ride, despite the fact that the car temperature is low. I cannot subject her to summertime in this seat. Also, my daughter is so tiny in this carseat and is very uncomfortable once she is strapped into the carseat, the seat seems to be more designed for a larger baby. Also, she slides down on the synthetic fabric and I had to get a head support to keep her from slipping. And I had to get strap coverings because the straps come dangerously close to her neck despite the fact that the car seat was set up correctly and she was positioned as indicated in the manual. I'm going to break down and buy a car seat that only goes up to 20 lbs, as they seem better designed for a newborn. I'll use this one once the summer is over and my baby is bigger. Plusses include: very easy to carry and put in the car and in the graco car seat/stroller frame.
Rated 5 stars  This is the best car seat out there! I use it in my Combi Twin Savvy - Tara, ME
I bought this seat last month when my daughter was 10 months old. I am 28 weeks pregnant and plan on using this car seat for my daughter until the baby is born at which point I will use it for my newborn. My daughter is 21 pounds, 29 inches long. This is too big for any other infant carrier out there, but well within the limits for this Graco Safeseat. I was using the Britax Marathon for my daughter starting around 5 months old because she had already outgrown the 26 inch length limit of the Graco Snugride. We used the Britax until she was 10 months old which is when I discovered this Safeseat. The biggest advantage I see with this seat is (actually there are two)....#1--It is VERY easy to install properly! Much easier than the Graco Snugride. I could never get the snugride base tight enough. I was able to install the safeseat (being 25 weeks pregnant) in about 3 minutes. It comes with a built in locking clip making things easier. #2--Better weight limit and lenght limit. Being able to allow your baby to continue to sleep during outings is a wonderful thing taken away when you must use the convertable forward/rear facing seats. Yes, it is quite heavy to lug around a 20+ pound baby in a car seat. I am currently 28 weeks pregnant and still doing so without problem. I generally don't carry her this way other than to move her from the car to the shopping cart or from the car to the stroller (when she has fallen asleep in the car).
Rated 3 stars  Very Heavy - K.W., USA
When I picked this car seat out I was very excited because it held more weight. When I carried it around the store it was not so heavy so I figured no brainer it will last us a while and it matches our stroller. Well when our baby was born I soon found out this car seat is very heavy and hard to get in and out of our SUV with our 11 lb baby in it. So if you are looking for a car seat that is easy to lug around this is not the one. On the flip side it is very nice looking and will last us a while.
