| | | | Description of Safety 1st Intera 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat | | | Safety 1st Intera 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat The Safety 1st Intera 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat will take a child home from the hospital, take them to their first day of school and even to their wedding! OK, maybe not their wedding, but this convertible car seat certainly spans several years. With most car seat laws requiring a child to stay in a car seat until 8 years old or about 100 lbs., getting value out of a baby car seat is very important. This Safety 1st car seat works rear facing from 5 lbs. and to 100 lbs. as a booster. The standout feature of the Safety 1st Intera 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is its range. There are very few versions of car seat which double as both a belt positioning and backless booster. Simply pull the metal rod out of the base and lift the car seat up. The booster is essentially the base of the Safety 1st car seat. It is a convertible car seat which is also lightweight as it weighs in at just 20 lbs with the base weighing just 8 lbs. Kids love familiar items at an early age, such as a doll or blanket. This car seat from Safety 1st will be very familiar as it will be the first and last car seat the child ever rides in. It may not last till marriage, but it's nice to know that if it had to it could. | |

Every time we move the seat it has to be reinstalled by the safety team which can be a nightmare in regards to convenience. My two year old has outgrown the seat by height even though he's well within the written parameters per instruction manual. This is not a good rear facing seat at all. The crotch strap is extremely difficult to fasten even though it is at the widest point and my little boy complains about being uncomfortable...my son is very slim, not a big boy at all, just tall. The child passenger safety technicians told me to get rid of this seat, now I must listen to them because my little one has outgrown it so soon. This was a huge waste of money, there are much better choices available. | | By: Donna 11/20/2007 | | | Love this seat | I bought this seat in 2005 and have used it for two different boys, and both loved it. My son is now 18 months, and 25 lbs., and still fits wonderfully- he's been in this seat since outgrowing his infant carrier. It did take us a bit to install- you must read the instructions. My only complaint about this seat is that it didn't fit well into my mom's trailblazer- she doesn't have the latch system. I also have a trailblazer, but with the latch system, and it is very secure. I'm looking to get a 2nd one for my 2nd child. | | By: Rachelle 6/20/2007 | | | Awesome Seat! | This carseat is great!! I have two of them, and I don't even have children of my own! I nanny, and the carseats work for all the different children I take cae of. I am using one as a bookster for both a 4 year old and a 6 year old (not at the same time of course!) and the other one for a two year old and a three year old. They are so easy to adjust, and fit into my car better after i took off the base(or backless booter). They ware wonderful seat, and I trust their saety. | | By: Kortney 5/17/2007 | | | Not for little boys | I purchased this car seat for my son who is almost 4 years old, but is only 36" tall and weighs 27 lbs. He is very small! He is suppose to use the 5 pt harness system, but the bottom buckle (where the 2 straps connect to the bottom) is way to close to his private parts. It is moved out as far as it can go and we make sure he is sitting back in the seat, but it ALWAYS pinches him. I returned it, it is a design flaw. This seat is NOT meant to be used for toddlers, at least not boys. | | By: Melissa 3/27/2007 | | | it's good but could be better | i bought this seat when my daughter was just 8m old since she grew out of her infant seat. i loved how it was rear facing beyond the infant carriers so i could keep her rear facing longer. it goes to 35lbs or up to 36" in the rear facing position. then it forward faces to ONLY 40lbs or 40". at he point i bought this i thought that was great. however after much research i'd prefer if it went to a higher weight & height for the internal harness. my daughter is nearing height limit & she is only 2.5yr. & by looking when my boys were 40" she will will probably outgrow the harness at 3yrs old. SO i bought another seat for her that goes to 65lbs in harness FF & gave the intera to our baby son so he can remain rear facing. they will switch later on when my daughter is old enough for a belt positioning booster so that my youngest son can stay in the harness longer too.
another reviewer is correct that if you purchase this seat when your lil one is still a baby you will need a dedicated booster later. all seats will expire in 6yrs. i find that no matter what you do you end up buying several seats per kid. i tried to avoid but it didn't work.
installation is a pain but so is every other seat we install. tho i have to say practice makes perfect. the more you do the better you'll get at it. after 4 kids & several different seats - you get the hang of installing. we installed it with the base. i tried to install (RF) without so that my oldest could use the base but i couldn't get a tight enough fit. it worked much better with the base on. tho i think this depends on your car. it didn't work on the bench seats of a 1994 grand caravan.
please note that this seat MUST be installed with a high seat back. meaning like a captain chairs or with adjustable headrest. the head rest on intera is not adequate to without the seatbackl holding it as well. make sure the top of intera in the highest position is taller than the seatback of where you are installing it.
hope this helps you. i think it's a good seat for your money. it's comfy the deep side wings give a place for the child to lean on when sleeping.
| | By: Virginia 2/8/2007 | | | OK | I have this seat and it is okay, but I also own 2 Britax seats and the Intera can't compare in any way to the Britax seats. I am leaving a review to make sure that other parents realize that all car seats expire after 6 yrs, therefore, when purchasing a 4 in 1, like the Intera, Alpha Omega, etc..., if you purchase it when your child is a baby, it will expire when he/she is only 6 yrs old and should still be riding in a booster seat, so you will have to buy a dedicated booster anyway. Therefore, this seat is not really the only car seat you will ever have to buy, as is advertised, and as so many parents believe when they purchase it. Please keep this in mind when making your decision, and always always read your car seat's manual to make sure that you install & use the seat correctly each and every time. | | By: Mom of 3 and daycare provider to many 12/12/2006 | | | GREAT INVESTMENT | I absolutely love this car seat. I have 4 carseats for my son (he rides w/ a lot of different people!) and this is the best by far! LATCH systems are very confusing, but luckily I have a cousin trained in Car Seat Inspection, and she put it in for me. Once you put one in correctly, it's a breeze after that. My suggestion to EVERYONE, is to have your car seat inspected by someone. You can usually contact your local hospital (or your local State Police Post in Indiana) to find someone to do the inspections. Even if you use the LATCH system, but don't have it latched in correctly, your child is not safe. I've had this car seat since my son was 8 months old. He's now 2 1/2 and the seat still looks practically brand new!! | | By: Afton 11/27/2006 | | | Plush and comfy, but I don't "get" the latch system! | This car seat works very well with the seat belt and clip. But I really don't understand the latch system! I have read the booklet backwards and forwards and still I don't see how the strap that runs through the seat and hooks to the adjustable belt with the clips, tightens. It is so long that even if the belt is tightened as much as possible and latched on to the vehicle clips, the strap that is actually connected to the seat underneath the pad is still loose because it is so long with no way to adjust it. So if you want a car seat that clips to the vehicle, don't get this one! If you don't mind using the seat belt to secure the car seat, it is very nice and comfy. (It would be nice if it had harness pads.) | | By: Leah Daily 9/13/2006 | | | The best carseat | My husband and I looked into several carseats before settling on this one. The number one reason we chose this one is that it grows with the child ( I'm a sucker for things that have multi uses). Setting up was easy just adjust it to your child and strap it into the car. Every car we have ever used it in we have never had any problems at all. My only is dislike is the weight. But I quickly get over it. We have traveled abroad with this carseat. We all know how airlines aren't exactly gentle with your luggage. I received my carseat back with not even a scratch on it. My son is content in it unlike his other carseat the he would scream in. This carseat is the best I could ever find. | | By: Lisa, Sunbury, PA | | | Love It! | I got this car seat for my little girl when she was 5mths old she is now 10mnths old and I absolutely love it. Yes you do have to read the directions and it does take about 10-15 minutes to get it into the seat the right way so that it is secure and you will need to take a few minutes to read the directions but I think its worth the time to make sure its secure for your child. I love that it is both secure and a good buy for your money because it converts from rear facing to front facing to a booster with a back all the way to a backless booster for your child when they get older. I love the 5 point harness, and I actually made a point of finding the seat that had the alternative buckle instead of buying the one w/ the puzzle buckle, really for my own self b/c the puzzle buckle just seemed way to complicated in the store. I have the buckle that you buckle each strap in separately. Works Great! | | By: Missy, Winter Park, FL | | | I really like this one | We got this seat for my 5 month old girl (now 7 months) and we really like it so far. I can see how some people can get frustrated in installation but I spent maybe 15 minutes installing the seat into our SUV and it is solid and stable. As my SUV has very inclined rear seats, I chose to purchase a foam insert to level out the car seat. This is an issue with some SUV's, not the car seat. I really like how it adjusts to fit her continuous growth including the ease of the adjustable straps. If you are looking for a car seat that you can pull out of the box, throw into the back seat of you car and drive off in one quick and easy motion, I would not get this one. However, if you are willing to spend a few minutes reading the included instructions to see how the designers intended on this seat working, you will end up with a solid, stable, safe car seat that will grow with the child. | | By: Y.P., USA | | | Comfortable and functional at very reasonable price | If you can figure out the initial installation, you will be more than satisfied with the results. But the installation will test your faith in humanity!!! | | By: L.G., Citrus County, FL | | | car seat | This car seat is very large and has trouble fitting in a jeep back seat. The buckle is a royal pain in the butt to lock, with squirming children. You should opt for one that has the buckle with two seperate latches, not a two in one model. | | By: Janelle, USA | | | Write your own review and start sharing your opinion with others. | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
