	nice gate not sure if sturdy

	The gate looks nice, but not very sturdy
	I purchased two of these gates for my home because I have a lot of woodwork and wanted wall mounted gates that looked nice. Many people have commented on how nice they look, however I have problems with the pieces breaking. The picture in the catalog shows the placement at the top of stairs which is where I have one placed. Three months after I got the gate, the hinges broke which I felt put my young children at risk. Now, shortly over a year later, the pull assembly broke and although I paid $110.00 plus tax for each gate, evenflo says there is nothing they will do for me. I asked for a coupon (even $5.00 would have made me happy) to purchase another gate, and they refused. I suppose they would be fine if you don't have children using them, but they certainly don't stand up over time.

	Superb quality but instruction manual needs to be rearranged
	I purchased the natural oak gate model #1556. At the store, there were approximately 12 different choices, only 3 of which were permanent mount. The rest were pressure mount, which was unsuitable in my opinion for a top-of-stairs installation. Though this was the most expensive, it appeared to be the highest quality. The gate itself actually exceeded my expectations. It is made of solid wood. It is well constructed, perfectly finished and treated, and impeccably stained. It also exactly color matches the wood of the stairwell and banister in my house. All hardware appears to be strong and durable. It has been in use for only 2 days so far. So I cannot yet know if I will have the same experience of the previous reviewer. After having installed it, I still marvel at how perfectly it fits into its location, as if it were custom installed. I have one moderate complaint. I could not screw in the supplied wood screws by hand. So I used a power drill. In doing so, the heads of the screws came right off. Either the screws are poor quality or the pre-drilled holes are too small. The major complaint is that the first few steps of the instruction manual are impossible to complete. If I were to have followed them, I would have had to unscrew and re-screw many times to get the gate exactly the width that I needed. I fortunately waited to complete some of these steps until after the hinges and other hardware were installed so that I knew exactly how wide the gate needed to be. Once I was done though, the gate looks fantastic. It looks as though it were custom installed. Excellent, excellent product.

	If your stylish home isn't exactly begging for those bulky white plastic safety gates but your increasingly mobile baby calls for child-safe spaces, what are you to do? Try the Evenflo Home Decor Swing Gate. Its timeless design--smooth, splinter-free wood available in either a clean, natural finish or a rich harvest oak finish--suits both modern and classic homes. The gate looks like fine molding with attractive spindles. Because the spindles are vertical and the gate is tall, there's nothing for little daredevils to climb. The gate is hardware mounted for added security (you will, of course, have to repair the wall when you uninstall the gate when your children are grown). Its solid construction and sturdy mounting means it won't budge. It will, however, release easily from either side with its parent-friendly, one-hand latch. It swings open and closed with ease. The gate adjusts to fit openings 31 to 52 inches wide and stands 32 inches high.

	I don't trust it anymore
	I'll add my voice to the opinions against this really nice looking gate. In a nutshell, the locking mechanism is made of plastic, with some wiggle room, putting the whole gate at risk when pushed to hard. I have it installed at the top of the stairs, and when I see my 11 month old rattle it, my heart just stops. I'll b buying the much cheaper (and yes, uglier) KidCo gate instead, and at least feel that my child is safe.
