Description

The Auto Close HearthGate provides maximum safety for use around fireplaces of any shape or size. As a hardware mounted gate, it's ideal for use in any extra wide or odd shaped area when mounting points do not line up directly across from each other. All joints rotate; setting individual sections to the ideal angle, and then easily lock in place for a secure attachment.

The unique handle design on the extra wide door applies magnet-lock technology, a dual magnet design that automatically draws the door closed and guarantees it locks each and every time! The HearthGate also employs a hold open button, allowing the auto close door to be held open indefinitely until it is pushed closed. The original 5 piece HearthGate will fit a 6 foot hearth immediately; however, additional 9" and 24" sections can be purchased to add to the HearthGate to fit any desired length.
Product Features
  • Quick release hardware allows gate to be easily removed when not needed
  • 30 door section can be place anywhere within the gate layout
  • 23 extra wide door opening
  • Heavy duty steel construction
  • Can be connected to use as a freestanding play area, with the addition of optional extensions
  • Gate Height: 31
  • Gate Width: 132 (original 5 piece gate will fit a 6 fireplace)

High Praises for the Hearth Gate! Review by emily gibson

We live in an old farm house with a propane heater that can get pretty hot to the touch. We bought the hearth gate for the heat resistance...IT WORKS! We set the heater higher than normal and awhile later tested the gate...it wasn't even luke warm!! What a relief and what an even GREATER PRODUCT! I will be recommending this gate to EVERYONE! minor hand-ups Review by H. Thomas
Value
This is the ONLY safety gate I could find that was large enough, had a gate and looks great. I think I will like it better when it's installed. I had to send a section back because the connector pieces, which are made of plastic (plastic mounting brackets, too)were broken during shipping. This could have been prevented by covering the connectors with foam or cardboard or by not using plastic at all!
My other hang-up is that I had to remove a section to get the gate in the right position, but the piece I took off can't be reused anywhere else on the gate so, I had to buy an extra section to make it fit. (Posted on 3/7/2007)
Your ONE solution! Review by Anyonymous

I was looking for an indoor/outdoor gate system that we could use for years, i.e. I didn't want to purchase a new one with each child. My top concerns were safety, ease of use, quality and a nice looking design. I made the right choice with the KIDCO Configure Gate. We have used it in several places the past TWO years! To help block the driveway [elongated], in the yard [as a play pen], on our deck, as a christmas tree barrier, in our home office and more. We even accidentally left it on our deck in the rain and NO RUST! I love the walk-through door panel, so I don't have to walk over it to get in and out. The vertical bar design won't allow climbing. It is easy to conform to ANY shape - we will never buy another, although we may purchase additional panels in the future. (Posted on 1/1/2004)

Keep Your Kids Safe With This Gate! Review by Anonymous, Seattle, WA

We recently had moved into our new home that has a raised brick fireplace. We definitely needed something to prevent almost certain injury if my son were to fall on it. The foam padding that the stores sell just didn't seem to make it safe enough and still would not prevent a burn if his little hands decided to touch the glass cover of the gas fireplace. So far, it has worked out great! It comes with three sections. Each end must be mounted to the wall if you want it to be secure. If you need to block off an area larger than 72 inches, you will need to purchase additional extensions. There is a child-proof door and is very easy to use. Although my son has watched us unlock the door his little hands aren't strong enough to do it himself. We did end up needing to purchase two additional sections at $30 a piece in order to completely block off the area. This was fairly easy to mount to the wall and did take about a half hour to do. Once it was in place we had so much peace of mind. Now, even if he runs into it, the gate is there and he won't get hurt. I'm rating this 4 stars only because it is so expensive otherwise the gate itself is a 5. The cost is still so worth the safety of your child. (Posted on 1/1/2004)
Kidco Gate Review by Devin, Fayetteville, NC

We origionally bought this gate to keep our son away from the Christmas tree, but have found it useful for all sorts of things. We leave it unattached to anything and simply move the gate where we need it (indoors, outdoors, den, livingroom, etc) to keep our son confined when we need him to be. Cleaning, decorating, etc. The only problem I have seen with it is that my son is very strong. At 17 monthes he is picking up the bottom of the gate and trying to crawl underneath it, where he ends up trapped. This however I don't think is a defect in the gate, but rather a unique situation with my son who at 15 monthes was climbing out of his playpen. He simply can't be contained for any amount of time. I would reccomend this gate to anyone who needs a "play yard" for their child, or wants to keep them out of a dangerous or non childproofed area. (Posted on 1/1/2004)
Protect your children from your wood stove! Review by AnnMarie, USA
Value
We recently purchased a Kidco HearthGate for our fireplace. Our fireplace has a wood stove installed into it and the hearth is flush to the ground, so we were finding it difficult acquiring a safety gate that was strong enough that our 3 year old couldn't move it or our 1 year old push it. This gate it the perfect option. It is adjustable to many shapes like the Kidco Configure gate, but has a heat resistant coating (it is black instead of white). It has hardware to screw the product into the wall at each end and then you shape it around your hearth (once the segments are move they lock in place. It took my husband only about one hour to install (and that was with breaks) and I am very pleased with the results. It has a gate that swings open, but the children can't open it. I really wish we had bought this gate at the start instead of the one we had originally bought! (Posted on 1/1/2004)

Customer Q&A

Anonymous asked: How hot does it get? Will it burn my son if he touches it?
Lauren Irizarry: It really depends on how close you are putting to the fire. The nice thing is that this is a very long gate. If you can adjust it so it's not close then you are safe. Otherwise I would suggest buying another extension to make it further away. The closer it is the hotter it will be and yes once that metal gets hot he will get burned just like any other Hot metal, but it's going to take a while for that metal to heat up and prob by the time that fire has had a chance to really heat up that metal he?ll be asleep (hopefully) 11/17/2012

Lauren Irizarry: It's pretty easy as it took my husband an hour and that included him drilling into the wall. If you are just setting up around the fireplace and no mounting then it should only take 15-20min. 10/18/2012
Jennifer Valic: My husband left it in the boxes for ages, but when it came time to put up it probably took all of 30 minutes, maybe less, but we put up multiple pieces and boxes worth as we have a large wood stove. It has to be drilled into the wall so if this is temporary, you may not want t put holes in your walls. 10/19/2012
Stephen Mckone K: Easy to unhook from the wall once installed. May take a bit to fold up and put away, but should only take a few minutes. 1/12/2013
