You need 2 free hands to use and it's very noisy.

Love the gate. We use it at the top of the stairs, very secure. My only issue is it is loud when retracting.

This gate worked perfect for us and love the fact that is retracts and is virtually out of site when we are not using it. We attached it to a wall and then to a banister. We had to purchase a banister kit separately, but once we had it installed - installation was a snap!
Customer Q&A
Joe Levin asked:
we have wrought iron banisters can this gate be used?
Gina Bufalino:
You would have to drill through them. I don't think i would recommend them in your case. I drilled into my walls and/molding.
Melissa Brethauer:
No it has to be bolted into the wall.
Kristen Smith:
You can attach a small wooden board to screw the catches into. I have seen people do this so they don't screw into their wood banister. There are extra pieces you can purchase to custom fit this to your banister if you want to go that way.
Robert Gustin:
Yes-
I believe you could modify the attachment to fit with a wrought iron rail without to much of a hassle - as long as you have wall on
We have had the gate for close to three years now and it is still operating fine
