Solid FeedingOnce your child moves to solid food, he'll need to start learning to use utensils and other tableware. Baby dish feeding and becoming acclimated to solid food is an integral part of growing up. Parents will need to make the transition to solid feeding as smooth as possible. Usually, a baby is ready to move onto eating solid food between 4 – 6 months old. At this time, they will start to lose their tongue-thrust reflex (pushing their tongue against anything that is put into their mouth) and be able to switch to solid food. The best way to introduce your baby to solid food is to pick a time when your baby is relaxed and comfortable. The best time for this is usually right after a nap. Make sure that your baby is sitting up and well supported by either in a highchair or in your lap. It is very important that you never force your baby to eat. If your baby begins crying or turning away as you try to feed them, it may be too soon to introduce solid food into their diet. Try again after a week. In the meantime, you should continue to feed your baby breast milk and/or formula. BabyAge is here to help you through this difficult time in your baby's life.
