The First Years
Nice gate, didn't last long..... By Virginia, USA
January 1, 2004
We purchased this gate in December 2005. Our twin boys started crawling and we needed a gate for the top of the stairs. This gate worked great for about 5 months and then the knobs broke. Our friends have the same gate, and their knobs broke as well. There are many reviews on here stating that the knobs broke after one year, ours didn't even last 1/2 that long. We don't use it excessively, so I'm not sure why ours didn't hold up. I called The First Years company and they claim the gate has a 1 year warranty. She told me to mail in both knobs, my receipt (or legible copy showing date purchased) and they will send us replacement knobs. She also gave me a file # to reference. The lady stated about 10 times (very rudely!!) that we MUST have our receipt or they won't send us the new knobs. I told her over and over I have it right here in front of me, I guess she didn't believe me. So we're sending it in, we'll see if they really send us the replacements..... If anyone has their gate break within the 1 year warranty period, call 1-800-533-6708 (which is the number on the back of the gate instruction book) and they should cover it under the warranty. Just be sure to KEEP YOUR RECEIPT!!!

do not have this booster. One of the reviewers posted that there needs to be a booster for bigger kids that uses a harness. There is!!! Britax Husky uses a harness until 65lbs!!! It's pricey but well worth it if it will fit in your car.

A simple solution By Beautiful, Kenai, AK

We are the parents of twin eight month old boys. About a month ago they began crawling and pulling themselves up on the furniture. We have a steep staircase off our kitchen and I knew we would have to gate it off. I am not a very handy person and although I wanted a secure gate I did not want one that was difficult to install. I read all the gate reviews on Amazon and I was drawn to this one as it comes with templates for installing the hinges and latch. I am glad I ordered this gate as it lives up to its name--Simple and Secure. I had the gate installed perfectly in less than 30 minutes. It is very strong and blends well with our decor. We have a 42" stairwell and the gate fit without the need for any extensions or extra parts. Unlike some other reviewers, I did not find the closing "click" too loud or bothersome. In fact, it is reassuring to know that the gate is securly locked behind you. I would definitely recommend this product to any family having infants or toddlers.

My little one loves it! By MrsGrim

Some parents may not like this product, I received it as a gift a few months before my little guy was born, I hated it at first. My hubby and I put batteries in it, just to test it out. (I had gotten it used) It does need to be pretty dark in the room to see it on the wall, but the light shines through the bottom for little ones with 'newborn eyesight'. and the mechanics in it are pretty loud, but hey, they say its good for infants to have background noise, and we do always have a fan on in the room anyway! Our son started sleeping in his crib at 1 month old, he has been using this every night now to go to sleep, however, the bulb had just burnt out but we now use the sounds to put him to sleep until we can get the light fixed. I will be buying another one if we cannot change the bulb. This is the only thing that will put my son to sleep at 3 months old. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for a parent who is not picky and just wants to put their child to sleep!!!!!!
Great Booster Seat, but... By Jenny, Mao, AL
January 1, 2004
My son was able to get out of the seat very easily. He had only been in the seat one time before the time he wiggled his way out. But the seat was very easy to install, the box for storage & carrying is a great idea. The seat is soft (especially to be a booster) and I loved that I could wash the cover. Unfortunately thanks to the wiggle worm I had to return the seat.
