5.00 rating Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 Car Seat - Good concept by Anonymous on January 1, 2004
Our son grew out of his infant seat in 2 months but was not strong enough to support his neck so off we went looking for a new convertible car seat. The selection is huge so it pays to do some research before going into your local shop. After a huge amount of research and reading reviews, we decided on the Cosco Alpha Omega/Eddie Bauer 3-1 car seat. We had to consider cost, availability in our area, and safety. Everyone seems to agree that Britax is the best brand out there but for the money, I have no problems suggesting the Eddie Bauer. Important Features that this car seat has. 1) Five point harness 2) Adjustment of shoulder strap height without having to unthread the straps 3) Excellent feel of material 4) highly rated for safety by many authorities 5) LATCH compatible with EXCELLENT clips to attach the harness straps - this is really important since we tried some not so good LATCH compatible car seats. 6) Rear facing compatible up to 35lbs 7) as its name implies 3 car seats in one Some things that they could improve 1) Straps twist like crazy 2) Adjusting the tension of the shoulder straps is pretty difficult in the rear facing position but once set, its easy to get the baby in and out of the seat with the proper tension maintained. 3) A little more expensive than most car seats
5.00 rating Great Safety, Style and Durability! by Anonymous on January 1, 2004
This car seat was purchased for my new baby as a gift from the soon to be new grandparents as a shower gift. At first I was a little skeptical about them spending so much for just a car seat but once I watched the tape and tried the car seat out on my older child I was truly happy with the quality, durability and features of the car seat. The car seat comes with a tape to help introduce the car seat and the features of it to you for ease of use. This car seat also features the five point safety harness seat belt that protects the baby in a way that is extremely important and that is restraining the baby's movement during an accident. This is one of the other features that caught my eye and kept me interested in this car seat. This proves that safety was number one when designing this car seat. If you would like to know more about the five point safety harness seat belt, you can view details on most sites that provide this particular car seat. You will need to just click on the car seat and a short detail will be given to give you an idea of just how safe and great this feature really is for any child. The price isn't so bad after you figure you will end up buying a total of at least two more car seats after you purchase an infant one. This car seat allows you to not only use it for an infant car seat but adjusts for a toddler and an older kid up to 80 pounds. It reclines for an infant and has the added padded for around the head and neck which is extremely helpful and leaves you feeling comfortable about the position of your baby's head while you have to drive. The video that comes with the car seat is a great added plus, since you will want to guarantee your babies safety, this tape shows and tells you exactly how to insert the car seat in the vehicle and how to use it properly. Another great feature is the durable quality of the Eddie Bauer name with the great style and look of this car seat, you really can't go wrong. I really was impressed with the car seat and am truly happy with the decision of using this car seat for my newborn. I would suggest this car seat to any friend or family member looking to purchase a car seat.
5.00 rating Not for bucket babies... by Anonymous on January 1, 2004
This is a great car seat! We borrowed an infant seat from a friend for our daughter's first two weeks, but disliked it because she slouched down, her head flopped over, and the straps didn't seem to secure her very well. Then we tried this seat and were very pleased. She is secure and well supported in this seat. The strap covers and head support kept her head from flopping over, even when she slept. This seat is definitely not for bucket babies who are kept in their car seats for hours on end whether they're near an automobile or not. If you actually like holding your baby, this car seat is for you! We needed to use a blanket under the front of the base to make sure the angle was correct in both our cars (Neon and Intrepid). Unfortunately, there is no angle indicator to tell you if the seat is at 40 degrees. Because the seat is hard to move in and out of the Neon, we bought two. The Eddie Bauer fabric is soft and is good for summer and winter. My daughter doesn't get the sweats in this model as much as the regular Alpha Omega model, which has different fabric. The side pockets are handy for toys and supplies. The seat is well padded and seems comfortable. The best feature is that the straps are so easy to adjust each time you use the seat, which is important in spring and fall when clothing bulk varies from day to day. They do twist easily, but are easily untwisted. The top part of the five point harness buckles/snaps together so you don't have to keep inserting/removing the strap from the strap holder like you do on some models. Very easy to get baby in and out! As baby grows, the harness height is easy to adjust. Our daughter is now 8 months old and the seat is holding up well.
4.00 rating Great infant and toddler seat, but terrible booster by Mom, Taylorsville, KY on January 1, 2004
We have tried a million seats, even the Roundabout, but this was our pick of the litter. We used infant car seat until our son was 5 months old and was close to meeting the height and weight restrictions. This seat fit him good and properly installed rear facing. When he was around 13 months old moved him to forward facing position. Proper installation became even easier, and still fit him great. He is now 3 years old, and 35 pounds and this seat is still going strong. The only problem, and a big problem as far as I am concerned is the terrible safety ratings this seat received as a booster from Consumer Reports. The seatbelt guides on the upper portion of the seat do not allow for proper movement of the shoulder belt. I have tried every seat out there, I really have. The Alpha Omega/Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 is definitely my pick for infant/ toddler. Booster suggestions Britax StarRiser Comfy and Groco Turbo Booster. Many years pass (rather quickly I might add) from the time your child is an infant until ready for a booster - think about all the new products that will come out in the mean time.
