Britax has both front and rear facing car seats. They also make car seats that can go all the way up to an 80 pound weight limit. These heavy-duty Britax car seats include the Frontier and the Regent.

Safety

Britax is committed to providing a high caliber of safety and protection for your child. They look to improve child safety using research, testing, design and community advocacy. Continually advancing their products, Britax uses energy management features to distribute collision forces away from your child in the case of an accident. These energy management features include the energy-absorbing Versa-Tether, HUGS pads, and convertible car seat bases that crumple in a crash.

The Versa-Tether is a strap that is attached to two points on the upper part of the child seat. The hook on this strap then attaches to an anchor in your vehicle.  The Britax tether system allows you to tether your child seat in either the rear-facing or forward-facing modes. The Versa-Tether minimizes movement of the body and provides strong protection to the spinal cord and brain.

HUGS stands for the Harness Ultra-Guard System. These are chest pads made of a rubber-like material with treads on the back. HUGS help reduce the forward movement of your child in a crash. The Harness Ultra-Guard System assists in reducing forward movement of your child in the event of a crash by adding friction to the harness against your child’s chest as they move forward.

An energy-absorbing base is the lower portion of most Britax child seats, which is designed and engineered to distribute collision forces away from your child during a crash. Injuries and death occur when crash force energy comes in contact with your child.  Energy can be managed and pushed away from your child.  Incorporating an energy-absorbing base into the car seat allows for some of the crash force to be absorbed by the base instead of being passed on to your child.

One of out every four crashes occurs at the side of the vehicle. Also, 30% of fatalities are from side impact car crashes. So Britax has the True Side Impact Protection which provides extra safety to your child. It distributes collision forces, shields the child from intrusion, and reduces side-to-side head movement. This feature is found in the Britax Boulevard, Diplomat, and Frontier.
